Last year, I went to Penang island with Eugene for one of my good friend's wedding and I fell in love with the place. Since we didn't really get to explore the island that much last year (we were only there for 3 days 2 nights), this time we went there for a duration of 4 days 3 nights.
Eugene called me a typical KL person because apparently only KL people love going to Penang or Melaka. Well, I guess I am one of them typical people. 😌
Day 1 - Arrival & Ferringhi Beach
Our trip started with us taking the KLIA ekspres train in the morning from KL Sentral to KLIA 2 and thereafter we flew with Airasia from KLIA 2 to Penang International Airport. Upon arrival, we went to Gurney Plaza and Gurney Paragon to get some stuff for our stay and checked into our hotel at around 2.30pm.
Our flight was around 10am.
We stayed at this newly built hotel/serviced condo called 22 Macalister by Exsim.
In the evening, we went to Ferringhi Beach and we had our dinner at Ferringhi Heart.
Just in time to watch the sunset. It was beautiful.
Couldn't remember the names of the drinks but it was something like a mock mojito.
Lavender lemonade.
Food was just so-so and luckily we finished our dinner right before the storm hit. We went to Gurney Plaza to walk for a bit before heading back to our hotel. Sadly we were unable to watch the beach fire show.
Day 2 - OO White Coffee at Carnavon Street, Dachshund Cafe, Bulu-Bulu Cafe & Chulia Street
Backstory of why we had to come to Oo White Coffee - there was this one Grabcar uncle that told us during our Penang 1.0 trip that this kopitiam serves good beef noodles and so we thought we'd give it a try this time but unfortunately the beef noodle vendor was not operating that morning so we just ordered some eggs and toast. We also ordered their coffee and cham.
After our breakfast, we went to do some sightseeing.
Came across some really cute cat murals in a souvenir shop that specialises in selling cat stuff.
Saw this really popular dachshund cafe in xiaohongshu and instagram and so of course I had to come and see it for myself.
They have a lot of different dachshunds there.
But one thing that disappointed me was that the dachshunds were not particularly interested in playing with us (unlike those in the videos that we've seen online). Or maybe it's because we didn't buy their snacks and feed them?
As an entrance fee, we were required to order two drinks from their menu. One was sparkling yuzu and the other was sparkling passionfruit. Total spent was around RM40+ for both drinks.
We stopped by this famous P66 sotre that sells stationery and coffee while we were making our way to the sister cafe of the dachshund cafe - Bulu bulu cafe.
The Bulu-bulu cafe also requires an entrance fee of RM30+ per pax (without ordering food) and if we were to skip the entrance fee, we had to order 4 items off the menu. We ordered fish n chips & spring chicken as our mains.
For beverages, we ordered mango coconut shake and something else which I had forgotten..
We get to touch real life capybaras while we were there! This Bulu-bulu cafe was kinda interesting because they have a variety of animals there like peacocks, baby goats, birds, reptiles and etc.
Had to stop by one of the famous tau sar peah shops to get some tau sar peah as souvenirs.
Later that evening, we took a stroll around Chulia street for early dinner. Came across this gorgeous teal coloured building on the way.
For dinner, we ate by the roadside stalls on Chulia street. We ordered a plate of sweet soysauce mantis prawn dish to share.
Then each of us got a plate of wantan mee.
After dinner, we had the famous Hema-Hema ice cream as dessert. One was burnt butter & sage and the other was blue tahiti vanilla bean flavoured. It did not disappoint!
Day 3 - Penang Hill, Cecil Street Hawker Centre, Chew & Lee Jetty, Drafted
Woke up at 6am, got ourselves ready and headed to Penang Hill cable car station.
The tram was quite huge and but packed.
While we were there, we paid another RM120 to enter into this area called "The Habitat Penang Hill" which is sort of like a forest reserve/sanctuary part of the Penang Hill. It reminds me very much of FRIM.
It was definitely a little pricey but no ragrets because we did enjoy our time there!
Eugene wanted to have a mug of rootbeer once we've descended from the hill.
Right after Penang Hill, we headed straight to the hawker centre at Cecil Street.
Pasembur fish, not my thing.
Char koey teow, still okay.
Michelin star-ed duck koay teow tng. It was nice but it did not truly blow my mind.
Came over to Forest cloud cafe to have a cup of coffee. I've previously bought their coffee beans via Shopee before.
Iced americano. Beans were tad bit sour, not my favourite.
After brunch, we went over to Chew Jetty for sightseeing.
And this time we explored the Lee Jetty which was nearby the Chew Jetty. There were no souvenir shops at this Lee Jetty but they do have amazing sea views.

Later that evening, we took the Grab to the Gurney hawker centre right outside of Gurney Plaza to try some dishes.
Steamed squid with kangkung and sweet sauce.
Mixed fruit rojak. This was one of the best I've had so far.
Aiyu jelly and coconut water.
This fancy MCD caught my attention and so we had our dinner there. It's just a regular mcdonalds located within this nice historical building.
After dinner, we went to this beer place called "Drafted" to have some beer.
We ordered the Paperkite beer. It was just as good as the ones we had in KL.
We ordered a bowl of fried mala chicken as our side dish. The store owner also provided us some snacks. Very nice of them. 😍
4th day - OO White Coffee (Pt 2), PACE Coffee & Departure
Aka the last day of our trip. Before we went to the airport, we tried going back to Oo White Coffee at Carnavon street to try our luck on the availability of the beef noodle and thank god it was open!
Ordered two bowls of beef noodles. Good that it did not disappoint! But portionwise was a bit small

After having our beef noodles, we came to PACE coffee to have my favourite strawberry cream cake.
One of the best cream cakes ever!
Boarded the plane at around 2.30pm and got back to KL.
I am still looking forward to return to Penang again sometime, I just loved the place and the vibes that it gave me. Also thanks to Eugene for bringing me there! 💖
Since July, I've started going for these KL Car Free walks in the morning and I really enjoyed the city views.
Then the other day I went to Putrajaya with Eugene to get my car cam installed. Walked to this beautiful view and started my first Strava record after seeing everyone using it.

Went to IOI Putrajaya mall and got ordered this Jasmine Sea Salt cream milk tea because it has this gorgeously blue shaded cream!
Had Sri Lankan meal for the first time at Cafe Colombon IOI Putrajaya Mall. Eugene had the banana leaf rice with special basmathi rice and I had the cheese kottu roti. Everything was good 👏
